Main Description |
Figure 1 - Use of the PFT environment illustrates the use of the production fix test (PFT) environment. The
situation is as follows: Version 1.0 of a system is running in production. The organisation is simultaneously
developing version 1.1 and testing it in the system test environment. The production-disturbing defect, which needs to
be solved, occurs. This is done in the development environment where version 1.01 is created. This version is installed
in the production fix test environment, where it is tested. This fix for 1.0 must also be implemented in version 1.1
(or the defect might reoccur when 1.1 is in use). As such, a new version of 1.1 needs to be created after the system
test. That is version 1.11, which can be taken to the system test environment and on.

Figure 1: Use of the PFT environment
This example also demonstrates how production-disturbing defects can impact the rest of the organisation. When systems
cause a lot of production disturbances, the work for new versions is interrupted every time. This might even result in
new versions not being completed at all because they need to be adapted to the new fixes all the time.
